Mike began guitar lessons at the age of 10. Around this time he was also active in the school choir and performing in musicals. He attended Mount Royal college in his early twenties studying under guitarists Jim Chew, Doug Stephenson and Ralf Buschmeyer in the Jazz diploma program. In his late twenties he was accepted into the jazz degree program in North Vancouver. At Capilano University he continued his musical education in piano, voice and guitar; learning from teachers like jazz guitarist Bill Coon and singer Steve Maddock. In his early thirties he had a change of focus to the related health field of Music therapy. As a music therapy student he learned of the increased quality of life for people with physical and mental dissablilities who developed a relationship with the guitar. He has been playing the guitar continuously for over twenty-five years and has taught the last twelve. He enjoys teaching Blues and Rock guitar to all ages. He also loves to run while listening to music on his ipod.
